Did You Hear About My Questions About the Next President?

Archie Brown has some questions about who will be his next president. Here are some of his observations and wonderings:

If Hillary wins the nomination, and I believe she will, it will be an interesting November. Nearly fifty percent of voters will never vote for her, seeing her as the epitome of evil.

I am not at all sure who will be the Rep. nominee. I tend to think it will be the candidate with the most money, Mitt Romney. I do not see much appeal for him among the base of the party, nor for McCain or Rudy. So the election will hinge on the turn out of voters. Will Republicans hold their nose and vote for a nominee they don't care for just to keep Hillary out?

Did You Hear About Blood Donations?

Archie Brown has been a blood donor for many years. It began when he was nineteen, coaching a teenage league baseball team in his home town. One of the thirteen year old boys contracted leukemia and transfusions. Archie took part in the local drive to collect blood for Jimmy.

He found out then that giving blood is easy and a vital gift to people in anxious moments. He has given at least four times a year for the past forty years. He is going again today, right in the middle of the holiday season. Archie knows that the need for blood is high during this time and the collection is slow because many are sidetracked by the Christmas spirit. Archie feels that it is all the more important for him to give in those times!

Did You Hear About the Little Boy's Response?

Archie Brown was sitting in his easy chair, channel surfing. He was looking for something his grandkids might like to watch on Christmas Eve morning. The six year old was playing with some cars on the floor, the eight year old was reading and the 11 year old was rubbing the sleep from her eyes. When the menu on the tv displayed the name of a movie, "Heidi", Archie spoke the word.

Without looking up, the six year old replied, "Hello."

Archie had to laugh.

Did You Hear About My Sensitve Tooth?

Archie Brown has never liked going to the dentist. But this spring he had a little trouble with sensitive teeth, mostly with one of his lower left molars. When he drank something cold he had a sharp pain. And even when he was running, when he drew a deep breath, his tooth ached.

he did not want to see the dentist, but he was to go on a trip to the Caribbean island of Dominica. The facilities there are not quite up to our standards, so Archie went to get the tooth taken care of so he would not have to see a dentist on the island! The tooth got filled and capped.

But on the second day of the trip, the cap came off Archie's tooth. Rather than go to an island dentist, he suffered through the trip till he could get home and to his dentist.

Archie had tried some of the so called sensitive tooth pastes, but they did not cure anything, only covered the symptoms. Then he had a neighbor that received a free sample of Biotene tooth paste for sensitive teeth. Its formula is designed to diminish the problems, not simply mask them. A tube is now on Archie's counter in the master bathroom!

Did You Hear About Buying a New TV?

When Archie Brown was searching for the high definition television set that would be right for him, he went to the web site for Krillion.com. Krillion is a clearing house of information about electronics and appliances. It allows you to research the pros and cons of various products, then compare prices in various merchants in your local area. Archie looked at sony HDTV sets and Samsung LCD HD sets, and Panasonic Plasma televisions. He was then able to know the best television for him and where he could get the best deal on that product right in his hometown. It was win/win!

Archie and Ronda Brown were watching an ad for the new movie, "Charlie Wilson's War" last night. Ronda asked Arch who was Charlie Wilson. Archie said he did not know. But the ad indicated that the movie was based on a true story. Archie was surprised this morning to read on the front page of the Houston Chronicle that the woman Julia Roberts is portraying in the film is a Houstonian named Joanne Herring.

Did You Hear About Romney's Speech on Religion?

Archie Brown read that Mitt Romney is making a speech today in Texas, reminiscent of the speech John Kennedy made in Houston in 1960. In that speech, Kennedy put to rest in the minds of many voters the fear that he would bring his Catholicism into his presidency. Romney is still feared by about one third of evangelicals that he will introduce his Mormonism into his governance. Archie wonders if Romney will be as effective today as JFK was in 1960.

Did You Hear About The Tin Man?

Archie Brown has been intrigued by the commercials he has seen promoting the new mini-series that begins this weekend on the Sci-Fi Channel. It is a recreation of The Wizard of Oz. It looks so interesting that even Archie's wife, Ronda, is considering watching, despite the fact she does not like science fiction. Archie's only misgiving is that he is seldom home to see each installment of a mini-series and he does not like to record shows. But he may start the movie in hopes that it is both good and that he will be home to see it all.

Did You Hear About A Great New Revenge Movie?

There are some great movies that are built around the theme or revenge. Probably my favorite is Rob Roy, which starred Liam Neeson. I have considered the villain in that film to be one of the best of all history. He was truly wicked and made himself to the object of evil.

At one point in the movie he brutally violated Rob Roy's wife and left her alive to tell her husband of the vindictive act, just to provoke Roy into presenting himself for combat with a sword. His being a superior swordsman left him sure that if Roy came to face him it would mean the demise of the fugitive Roy.

But the villain did not fully measure the power of revenge. Though Rob Roy was not nearly the expert with a sword, his passion and commitment were more than enough to overcome the villain. In the climactic scene, Roy simply grabbed his opponent's sword, despite the damage to his hand, and plunged a blade into the heart of his nemesis. It was one of the most powerful scenes I have ever seen.

I was just encouraged to visit the official Sweeney Todd movie site, to see the trailer and read about the plot of the movie. Revenge is the major theme of this movie, starring Johnny Depp as a common man who has everything dear to him taken by a man of powerful position. But he uses a razor to "straiten" everything out! I can hardly wait to see the movie to open, on December 21, so I can compare the power this film to that of Rob Roy!

In the mean time I will visit Sweeney Todd on MySpace to get more information!

Did You Hear About Art Briles Leaving Houston?

Five years ago, Archie Brown was very pleased that the University of Houston hired Art Briles as head football coach of the Cougars. He was an alumnus and former player at Houston, and he indicated that this was his dream job. So Archie was very disappointed today when Briles left Houston to go to Baylor, which Archie sees and as a lesser job, though in a more important conference!

Did You Hear About The Explosion At The Mine Where The 7 Dwarfs Work?

There was a great explosion at the mine where the Seven Dwarfs work. Snow White heard the blast and ran to the site. At the mouth of the cave, with smoke and dust billowing out, she began to shout, "Can you hear me? Is anyone there? Are you there? Please let me know you are all right!"

She finally heard a voice saying, "Vote for Hillary."

Snow White thought to herself, "Well, at least Dopey is okay."

Archie Brown thought the little joke was cute.

Did You Hear About The Screen Writers Strike?

Archie and Ronda Brown do not watch a lot of television outside sporting events. But they do like Law and Order and a few other dramas. They are now wondering what will happen to the series now that there is a writers' strike going on in Hollywood. Maybe it will be settled soon and there won't have to be an interruption or injection of many re-runs.

Did You Hear About Buying A Washing Machine?

The size of Archie and Ronda Brown's family has doubled recently when two grandsons came to live with them. One of the things the change demanded was that their small and older appliances be upgraded. They started with a new LG Washing Machines. Archie researched the machines online through Krillion.com. They pointed him to the store nearest the Browns with the type of washer Ronda decided on. The online process allowed the Browns to get just what they wanted without having to go from store to store to compare prices and availability. Archie was very pleased with the whole process.

Did You Hear About The New Y?

A new YMCA has opened in the neighborhood where Archie and Ronda Brown live. They have signed up as members, in part so that the boys can play in the leagues the Y promotes. But Archie and Ronda are also going to visit the gym at least twice a week to do the FitLinxx workouts. In the first five visits Archie has done his circuits successfully, having lifted a total of over 13,000 pounds.
