Poetry Challenge Entry
Submitted by familyfunandfaith on Mon, 2006-09-18 14:39

His entry into the real world was pointed,
It was that for which he was The Anointed.
His delivery through a virgin was quite slick,
but for the Creator, it took only a flick.
His offer of redemption ought make us opine
as to if in His rest we will safely recline.
I'd advise that you allow the Christ's advent
to remove your sins and make your heart content!

Poetry Challenge
Submitted by familyfunandfaith on Sun, 2006-09-03 03:20

Our party should be a big high,
I'm a bit nervous as I put on my tie.
Together we have taken on the whole world,
and through 40 years we've joyfully twirled.
Our relationship is really top drawer,
and we're not ready to leave the dance floor.
It's been many years since the first kiss was stolen,
But I thank God that our romance has kept rollin'!

I picked up a used book
Submitted by familyfunandfaith on Mon, 2006-08-28 03:36

I picked up a used book
and gave it a a quick look.
The title character was a Heller,
who cherished his own space.
A gal he met wore tights, no lace.
The hero was uneducated as a speller,
but he could make bad guys wince,
& for their crimes he would rinse
away any thought of their gain.
When bullied he would roust
his avowed enemies to joust
or hightail it all the way to Spain.

(there is a Louis L'Amour novel called Heller with a Gun, that was made into a movie, with Anthony Quinn, called Heller in Pink Tights)

Rhyming Challenge

Romantics who are lonely,
are not they only
who can wrtie fairly
and pen a word squarely.
I submit my rhymes yearly
thinking I must be nearly
published, though in truth partly
I just want to be smartly!

Bookies and Cookies poem
Submitted by familyfunandfaith on Tue, 2006-08-15 01:30

I tried reach my bookie
to get a big bet booked.
While waiting I ate a cookie,
that last night I had cooked.
As I waited I began to squirm
and my tummy became squeamish,
perhaps that cookie had a germ.
I would like to send it to Venus!

Beach Poem
Submitted by familyfunandfaith on Sat, 2006-08-05 07:52

I like to go down to the sea
where I always feel truly free
under the tropical blue sky,
though I've never known why.
There's a single palm tree
Neath which I love to be.
When the surf's tide is high
I wish the day would never die.

Great words for a poem, believin, too bad my poem isn't!
Submitted by familyfunandfaith on Fri, 2006-08-04 17:01

I see the way
you give me the eye.
but I'll tell you nay;
unless I am high.
It is not how much you weigh,
no room to talk have I.
It was hearing you neigh
that made me settle for "hi".

Poem for our Dog, Buccaneer
Submitted by familyfunandfaith on Fri, 2006-06-02 04:32

I went out to see if he needed help
when I heard our yellow Lab yelp.
He was just trying to earn his keep,
his eager alertness doesn't seep.
No intruder needs ever to try
to invade our home, it's no lie.
He loves to walk beside my knee;
keeping up exercise is a big key
to keeping Buccanner healthy. Still
Sometimes I really lack the zeal.

All the stars in the sky
Submitted by familyfunandfaith on Wed, 2006-05-31 01:27

All the stars in the sky were a glow,
I could hear the nightengale sing
and feel a gentle spring breeze blow.
Our relationship was now more than a fling.
It was more than passions that bubble,
the level of emotions had made a big jump.
No longer would I wander alone in the rubble
or have my confidence lower than a stump.
I bought a ring, a band of bright yellow
and a dozen long stem roses, blood red,
I'm without a doubt the luckiest fellow
who ever breathed, thought, laughed or bled.

This poetry challenge from Veenus was tough!
Submitted by familyfunandfaith on Mon, 2006-05-29 13:08

The doctor's eyes had a glint
as he said, "this one makes it a quint".
I wanted to give my wife a little peck,
but was overcome at the news, and fell to the deck.
When I was recovered I put on a glove
and without any urging, I didn't need a shove,
I held all my babies at once, a new art.
I listened to hear each little heart,
and came aware that mine had begun to pound.
I am going to have to have my feet on the ground
if I am going to have five little ones surround
me with laughs and songs and other sweet sound.

"I Am Glad"
Submitted by familyfunandfaith on Sat, 2006-05-27 18:47

I am glad we don't have to carry gold,
it is much easier with money that'll fold.

I am glad we eat fruit like pomegranate,
it is much easier on the teeth than granite.

I am glad I am not a little ol' gazelle,
cause they can't write poetry very well.

I am glad I am married to my darling,
instead of some loud, sqawking starling.

I am glad I don't live in an iv'ry tower,
where it would be hard to smell a flower.

I am glad no one makes me eat raisins,
cause when I do, my bowel emblazens.

I am glad when I can watch fawns & does
in the early morning, where the creek flows.

I am glad to see a flock of sheep graze,
it makes me hope for more peaceful days!

No One Else
Submitted by familyfunandfaith on Thu, 2006-05-25 21:25

We came to a meeting of the minds
because our hearts were full of love.
We each saw ourselves as one who finds
a deep hunger that we could not remove.
We placed upon the license our mark,
Our resolve could not be shaken.
Even if we heard our parents bark,
no steps to separate would be taken.
The blush of youth was on our cheeks,
we really had no clue of what was to come.
But through the years, months, & weeks
we dealt with both the joys and the doom.
All the wrinkles and gray hair have proved
There is no one else we'd have rather loved.

Since poetry is not my Forte
Submitted by familyfunandfaith on Sun, 2006-05-07 03:26

Since poetry is not my forte,
these hard words may squash
my aim to create one-a-day,
I ought to give my hands a wash.
But it was believin who chose to ordain
us all to attempt to make a poetry splash,
So I guess I will persevere to retain
the zeal to post my rhymes with pinache!

Caroling poem
Submitted by familyfunandfaith on Thu, 2006-05-04 21:58

At Christmas often sing a carol
of Jesus entering the world of peril.
In the manger the donkey ate his oats
as Mary wrapped the child in coats
of swaddling cloth she found in a barrel.
Returning home we get our hands toasted
and eat our chestnuts Dad has roasted.
At midnight we hear the bells' peel
and we think of the serpent under Christ's heel,
before off to dreamland we have coasted.

Night Poet
Submitted by familyfunandfaith on Tue, 2006-05-02 00:47

I cannot lay here still
so I rise, turning on the light
I find paper to fill
with poetry describing the night.
I shudder with a chill,
and my goose bumps are a sight.
I need a quick meal
but I would much rather write.

New Poets Now Playing!
Submitted by familyfunandfaith on Sun, 2006-04-30 19:02.

I did not like being the only
poet coming here so hopefully
to find no one else playing--lonely.
But I'm excited by new words--bully!

I want the new poets to be happy
in posting their works here aptly,
despite finding mine so sappy,
I will continue to read their raptly.

Life is too short to face it sourly,
because our best intentions can barely
hope to do better than take it hourly
having some fun and dealing fairly.

I'd love to express thoughts
Submitted by familyfunandfaith on Thu, 2006-03-09 06:11.

I'd love to express thoughts that are profound,
that would draw people to seek an adventure
or work to unravel a puzzling mystery.
I usually feel strongly that my ideas are sound,
so when I offer them up, it is with a passion.
Revealing your heart in writing can be risky
because there is always someone who is certain
that there are much better ways to be found!
